Austin Education Center Advanced audio and video tools encourage a collaborative approach to research and teaching activities among Starkey facilities and other partners around the globe.

The Audiological Research team, within the Hearing Research and Technology department, conducts research on new technology designed to enhance hearing and communication for individuals with hearing impairment. Our innovative approach to evidence-based hearing technology ensures that the user receives benefit from the products being developed. As such, the Audiological Research team is committed to improving the quality of life for our patients through excellence in clinical and research methods.

Audiological research at Starkey Laboratories is focused on two primary areas:

  • Algorithm Research evaluates the impact of advanced technology. Signal processing approaches are explored, verified and validated through laboratory evaluations and field trials. The ultimate goal is to improve speech understanding, increase listening comfort, and/or enhance the ease of hearing aid use.
  • Clinical Product Research conducts Alpha and Beta clinical trials to verify diagnostic-based fitting procedures and validate hearing aid processes. These clinical trials also examine objective and subjective patient benefit received from the various algorithms within the test hearing aids.
